The Dataset's Variables and Attributes

Row Type Variable Name Attribute Name Data Type Value
attribute NC_GLOBAL _NCProperties String version=2,netcdf=4.8.1,hdf5=1.12.2
attribute NC_GLOBAL abstract String C22 – Loop Current Pressure Point buoy (NDBC ID: 42026) is located 100 nautical miles southwest of Naples, FL. This met-ocean buoy is moored in 70 meters (230 feet) of water. Measurements are collected twice per hour (timestamp at :05 and :35 minutes past the hour). Measurements consist of 10 minute averages of 1 second samples, with the averages centered on the hour and half hour.

The mooring is maintained by USF's Coastal Ocean Monitoring and Prediction System (comps.marine.usf.edu). Station data is shared with NDBC as mooring 42026. Support for this mooring is provided by SECOORA.

attribute NC_GLOBAL history String Data logger: Campbell Scientific CR1000X Communications: Campbell Scientific TX-321-G GOES Satellite Transmitter Met instruments: Primary - Campbell EE181-L AT/RH probe, Vaisala PTB110 Barometer, Gill Windsonic anemometer w/ Honeywell HMR3300 compass Met Instruments: Secondary (back-up) wind - Gill Windsonic anemometer w/ Honeywell HMR3300 compass Oceanographic Instruments: Seabird SBE-37 MicroCat T/S, TRDI Workhorse ADCP current meter The data logger computes averages of MET/Wind data sampled every second for 10 minutes, centered at the top and bottom of the hour, from both primary and secondary MET/Wind sensors. The logger then computes averages of these one second samples. The T/S sensor samples temperature and salinity every 10 minutes and sends the data to the data logger. ADCP data is sampled inside the instrument every second for 6 minutes, centered at the top of the hour. The ADCP averages these 1 second samples and sends the average to the data logger. The Data logger constructs a text message for the data collected during the hour. The GOES transmitter sends the text message at a designated time each hour based on the GOES ID(s) assigned to the buoy. GOES messages are downloaded to COMPS servers using the OPENDCS software package. Data from these messages is decoded, passed through QARTOD QA/QC tests, posted to the COMPS website (comps.marine.usf.edu) and stored in the COMPS database. attribute NC_GLOBAL license String Website data and use disclaimer: Real-time data provided by through the COMPS web site should be considered RAW and therefore provisional. Quality control flagged data, using NOAA IOOS Quality Assurance / Quality Control of Real Time Oceanographic Data (QARTOD) procedures, for any particular location are available only in the archived data for each mooring. While all due care is taken to provide accurate information, provisional data are subject to change and/or retraction after quality control. No warranty is made, express or implied, regarding the accuracy or validity of the data, or regarding the suitability of the data for any particular application. attribute NC_GLOBAL processing_level String As the sensor data arrives, it passes through required and highly recommended QARTOD QA/QC tests to identify outliers and other anomalies. This data posts to the COMPS website (comps.marine.usf.edu) and is stored in the COMPS database. Analysts receive a daily e-mail with sensor quality reports (i.e QC flags are identified). Individual sensor data quality flags can be overridden based on analyst review. The updated quality flags are stored in the COMPS database. Attribute Accuracy: CTD Calibration Process - Seabird CTD is returned to the manufacturer for calibration based on manufacture recommend guidelines. The CTD user manual provides directions for the user to determine if the CTD is still within calibration limits. If it is, the CTD remains in service. If it is not, it goes back to Seabird for calibration. All sensors are sent back at least once every three years for service (whether they are within calibration limits or not). TRDI Workhorse ADCP Calibration/Repair Process - TRDI ADCP is returned to the manufacturer for calibration based on manufacture recommend guidelines. The ADCP user manual provides directions for the user to determine if the instrument is still within calibration limits. If it is, the ADCP remains in service. If it is not, it goes back to TRDI for calibration and/or repair. All sensors are sent back at least once every three years for service (whether they are within calibration limits or not). Accuracy Tests and Checks - All met sensors are calibrated to NIST traceable instruments by manufacturer. Deployed instruments are checked against nearest neighbor and QA/QC tests. In lab tests are conducted prior to each deployment. Consistency: QARTOD Wind Manual - COMPS uses Tests 1-8 of the QARTOD wind manual to quality control wind data. The link to the QARTOD manual is: https://ioos.noaa.gov/ioos-in-action/wind-data/ (external link) QARTOD In-situ Temperature and Salinity Manual - COMPS uses Tests 1-8 of the QARTOD temperature and salinity manual to quality control sea surface temperature and salinity data. The link to the QARTOD manual is: https://ioos.noaa.gov/ioos-in-action/temperature-salinity/ (external link) Air Temperature QA/QC - There currently is not a QARTOD manual for air temperature. COMPS uses Tests 1-8 of the QARTOD wind manual to quality control air temperature data as the tests outlined in the manual can be used to QA/QC other parameters. Relative Humidity QA/QC - There currently is not a QARTOD manual for relative humidity. COMPS uses Tests 1-8 of the QARTOD wind manual to quality control relative humidity data as the tests outlined in the manual can be used to QA/QC other parameters. Air pressure/barometric pressure QA/QC - There currently is not a QARTOD manual for air perssure. COMPS uses Tests 1-8 of the QARTOD wind manual to quality control air pressure data as the tests outlined in the manual can be used to QA/QC other parameters. Sea Water Current QA/QC - COMPS uses all of the tests of the QARTOD In-Situ Current Observations manual (that apply to TRDI ADCP instruments) to quality control sea water current data. The link to the QARTOD manual is: https://ioos.noaa.gov/ioos-in-action/currents/ (external link)
